More upcoming fall events
A couple of weeks ago I posted about the author event we’re having here at the library today at 7 pm (Tuesday, September 22nd) with Michele Longo-Eder.
I promised to post more about other upcoming events, and I have two to tell you about this time, happening in early October.
The first October event is on Sunday, October 4th at 2 pm, and it’s presented by Morris and Lynn Walker, creators of a film about Corvallis’ history called Stories and Legends from the Heart of the Valley.
The event will feature the filmmakers’ favorite clips from the movie, readings from some of the “Clips in Time” columns they wrote for the Corvallis Gazette-Times, and more. They will talk about the making of the film, and copies of the DVD will be for sale, with 10% of the sales going to the Friends of the Library.
The next event is on Tuesday, October 6th, at 7 pm, featuring Matt Love. Matt was here last fall to promote Citadel of the Spirit, and gave a really great program (listen to excerpts from it here). Matt is an author, the publisher of Nestucca Spit Press, a teacher at Newport High School, and writes a number of columns and blogs, including a blog for Powell’s Books.
He’s in town to promote the release of his latest book, Super Sunday in Newport: Notes From My First Year in Town. Copies will be for sale at the program, with 10% of the sales going to the Friends of the Library.
Here’s a little bit more about the book:
“After ten years serving as caretaker of the Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Tillamook County, Love moved to Newport and began a new chapter in his life. “When I left the refuge I wasn’t sure I would continue to write with the same intensity. But I adapted quickly to my new home and found the area rich with stories. Very rich.”
Super Sunday in Newport features 46 pieces originally written for the weekly open mic sessions at Café Mundo in Nye Beach. It mixes memoir, polemic, vignette, essay and photographs to create a unique personal portrait of Newport and unconventional narrative of Love’s transitional year.”
Both of these great programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and are happening in the Main Meeting Room at the Corvallis Library. We hope to see you there!
