Saving Lives, One Story at a Time – How To Capture Your Family History
The world is full of history books and biographies, but the one that might mean the most to you may never get written.
We’ve got a program coming up that can help change that. It’s called Saving Lives, One Story at a Time, and it’s all about recording personal histories. If you don’t want to let your grandparents’ or parents’ stories to disappear once they pass on, come hear three professional personal historians (yes, there is such a thing) at the library on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 PM.
What is a personal history? It’s more than genealogy, more than the names, dates and places listed on a family tree – a personal history tells the stories behind those facts and brings a family tree to life.
These life-stories can be recorded in many different ways, and the presenters have experiences with all sorts of formats, including published memoirs, DVDs, heritage cookbooks, and narrated photo books. The personal historians will discuss the value of capturing your personal history, how to write and publish your story, and how to get your story on video. They will also provide samples of personal history books and videos.
It should be a really informative and interactive session. We look forward to seeing you there on the 21st!
