Musings on serendipity and stopping to smell the roses
I always stop to smell the roses, or any other flowers that are in reach of my nose when I’m out for a walk. I feel like I only have one lifetime’s worth of smelling flowers, and I want to make it count!
Though I make a point to literally stop and smell the roses, I probably don’t do it enough as I should in the figurative sense. Thinking about libraries and roses (for reasons why, see below), I realized that the library is a great place to figuratively stop and smell the roses. So much of the fun of a library is browsing the shelves and seeing what you happen upon, rather than just seeking out on particular title and leaving.
So venture away from the hold shelf – come on upstairs and browse the great stuff we’ve got on the second floor! Serendipitous findings can be such fun.
The reason I’m posting about roses and libraries is because that this month (June) it’s National Rose Month. The lovely folks of the Corvallis Rose Society are celebrating by featuring roses from members’ gardens as part of our rose materials display on the second floor. So come on upstairs, and stop to smell the roses.
