Looking at our blog stats, I see that our recent Eat, Pray, Love read-alikes post has beenĀ  far and away our most popular lately. While I haven’t read the book, it seems to involve a fair amount of traveling and eating.

So, since summer is a great time to travel and a good time to eat, here are some travel and food memoirs to whet your appetite for both.

book cover Shark’s Fin and Sichuan Pepper: A Sweet-Sour Memoir of Eating in China

Fuchsia Dunlop

“When award-winning food writer Dunlop lived in China, she vowed to eat everything she was offered, no matter how alien and bizarre. From the vibrant markets of Sichuan to the bleached landscape of the Gansu Province, this work presents a unique and evocative account of Chinese culinary culture.”

book cover Passion on the Vine: A Memoir of Food, Wine, and Family in the Heart of Italy

Sergio Esposito

“Esposito’s luscious accounts of the food and wine that are so much a part of Italian life, and his poignant and often hilarious stories of his relationships with his family and Italian friends, make this book an utterly unique and enchanting work about Italy and its culture.”

book cover The Gastronomy of Marriage: A Memoir of Food and Love

Michelle Maisto

“For lovers of food and foodies in love, this memoir chronicles how one couple comes to define their relationship through their shared responsibilities surrounding the nightly ritual of dinner.”

book cover Eating: A Memoir

Jason Epstein

“From the great restaurants of postwar Paris to the narrow streets of New York’s Chinatown, “Eating” by legendary editor Epstein takes readers on a culinary tour through his eventful life.”

book cover I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti

Giulia Melucci

“From failure to fusilli, this deliciously hilarious read tells the story of Melucci’s fizzled romances and the mouthwatering recipes she used to seduce her men, smooth over the lumps, and console herself when the relationships flamed out.”
