Staff picks – lightning round!
This week I put out a call for random staff picks – anything that a second floor librarian has checked out recently and enjoyed. I wanted off-the-top-of-your-head recommendations from our librarians.
Here are the results of the lightning round:

Lisa picked Don’t Sleep, There Are Snakes, by Daniel Everett
“This book was fascinating. Everett lived amongst the Pirahá in Brazil for decades. The reader learns a lot about the culture and language of the Pirahá, and all about Everett’s theory that the Pirahá language influenced their culture, not the other way around. Everett brings together linguistics with amazing stories of life in the Amazon jungle.” |

Mary picked Crocodile on the Sandbank, by Elizabeth Peters
“This is the first in the Amanda Peabody series, set in Egypt in the 1880s. I’m enjoying the feisty young detective and am learning a lot about Egypt.” |

Christopher chose some music – The Very Best of Toots and the Maytals
“Important “roots” reggae act, often covered by other groups. Highlight tracks: 54-46, Pressure Drop, Sweet & Dandy, Monkey Man, Reggae got soul, (I’ve got) dreams to remember… I used to DJ a Reggae show, really grew to love this stuff…” |

Shannon picked Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love, by Julie Moir Messervy.
She also recently enjoyed the film Children of Heaven, directed by Majid Majidi. |
