Library lovin’ (beautiful buildings)

A while back, we had a nice exchange with one of our Twitter friends, John Bergquist (@johnflurry). He posted a link to a Huffington Post article with pictures of amazing libraries around the world. Readers have been voting on their favorites, and at the moment, the top library is the Long Room in the Trinity [...]

Happy blogiversary!

The second floor librarians just noticed that today is exactly one year since we first posted on our blog. And this is the 151st post. How cool is that?!

Different library hours Dec. 14th – 24th

Starting Monday, December 14th, and running through December 24th, the Corvallis library will be open 10-6 only. (All of the branches will have their normal hours.)
This is because the Corvallis library’s boiler is being replaced, and the building will be cold! There will be no heat, so if you’re planning to visit us during this [...]

42% of the top 100 novels of the 20th Century have been banned or challenged

That’s an attention-getting statistic, isn’t it? I was surprised to find this out myself, when putting together our Banned Books Week display for the second floor.

Libraries in Dijon, France

Top ten books checked out from January to June

On Monday, the Corvallis Gazette-Times asked us for the 10 books that were checked out the most often between 01/01/2009 and 06/15/2009. We ran some reports for them, and I thought I’d share the results with you here as well.

Why is that new book not on order?

Some of you may have been puzzled lately… there are lots of new books coming out in July that aren’t in our catalog, so you can’t put holds on them. You might be wondering – are we not ordering the latest Stieg Larrson novel, The Girl Who Played With Fire?

Malcolm Gladwell, Mario Batali, Amy Tan, and more, on the importance of libraries in our communities

This is a great video. It’s part of a campaign from the New York Public Library, which is currently facing $57 million in budget cuts.
How does it apply to us here in Corvallis/Benton Co.? It’s a great reminder of the value of libraries in our community. There’s also some nice shots of NYPL (a library [...]
