The Library welcomes musician and novelist Willy Vlautin

On Thursday, February 16, at 6:30 pm in the Main Meeting Room, Willy Vlautin will present a program that combines music and literature.  Vlautin will read from his Oregon Book Award-winning novel Lean on Pete as well as play songs which inspired the book.

Last fall the Library and Friends of the Library hosted Visions of Home: a Reading and Discussion with local authors  George Estreich, Marjorie Sandor, and Charles Goodrich.  It was a fabulous evening with a great discussion and a nice community turnout. Happy New eReader Year!

Ereaders have been on our minds lately. We recently held one of our famous ebook drop-in sessions and had a “standing room only” crowd. I bet more than a few of you got an ereader this holiday season.  Well, we are planning another ereader extravaganza just for you, this time on Friday January 6th.

If you missed Friday’s ereader/ebook clinic . . .

It was great to see so many faces–both familiar and new–at last Friday’s ereader/ebook drop in session.  We had a variety of dedicated ereaders and tablets for people to try out, and a number of folks brought in their own gadget and had the chance to ask us questions about it.

There are lots of interesting free events happening this month at the library, including a classical guitar concert, the monthly Random Review sponsored by the Friends of the Library,  a talk by Oregon hiking guru Bill Sullivan, and a drop in ereading clinic.

We are very excited to announce that classical guitarist John Jarvie, will be performing at the library on Thursday, November 10 at 7:00 pm.  Save the date!

Books, food, and jazz

The 18th annual Magic Barrel: A Reading to Fight Hunger takes place on Friday, Oct. 21 in the Corvallis High School Theater.  In addition to readings by 8 local authors, there will be jazz music and delicious treats from local chefs and bakers.  Music starts at 6:30, followed by readings at 7:00.

Library happenings

Tuesday and Wednesday are big days at the library next week! Expand your horizons  with presentations  about the culture of gay bullying, Italian travel, the importance of bees in our landscape.  We will also have a fun readers theater event.
