What are feeds?

Feeds (aka RSS feeds) are ways to have websites deliver their content to you. Instead of visiting many sites to see what’s new, a feed will let you know in one central place what has been updated with a website.

To see if a website has a rssiconfeed available, look for the orange logo with a broadcast symbol (left), or the letters RSS. To subscribe to and receive RSS feeds, you have a couple of options.

You can subscribe to RSS feeds using your browser – here are instructions for Internet Explorer and Firefox.

You can also subscribe to RSS feeds using an RSS reader. This means you have to set up an account with a service, and you log into it to check your feeds, similar to logging into a web-based email service.  Two popular free RSS readers are Google Reader and Bloglines.

Here’s a video that does a nice job of explaining RSS feeds. If you have more questions, you can always ask us.
